On motion of Mr. Merrick, the rules were suspended,
And the House proceeded to the consideration of the Senate
bill entitled an Act to direct the Attorney General of the State
of Maryland to be, by proper proceedings, made a party in a
cause now pending in the Circuit Court of Baltimore city,
entitled the Commonwealth of Virginia, vs. the Chesapeake
and Ohio Canal Company and others, and to appeaf for the
State in said cause, and on its behalf to defend the same.
Said bill being upon a second reading, the bill was then
read a second time.
Mr. Merrick moved that the bill be read a third time this
day, under the provisions of section 27, Article 3, of the Con-
stitution.
