Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 468.

 

AN ACT to Incorporate the Johns Hopkins Mu-
tual Life Insurance Company of Maryland.

Corporators.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Johns Hopkins, Thomas Ken-
sett, Joseph B. Brinkley, William T. Walters,
Robert Fowler, Richard B. Carmichael, Levin L.
Waters, William T. Hamilton, John N. Carroll,
Francis J. Henry, their successors and all other
persons who, from time to time, shall become mem-
bers of the corporation to be created by this Act,
shall be and they are hereby created and declared
to be a body politic and corporate by the name,
style and title of the "Johns Hopkins" Mutual
Life Insurance Company of Maryland; and they
and their successors are hereby ordained and de-
clared a body politic and corporate in fact and in
law, with power to purchase, hold, receive and
convey all such property, real or personal, as they

may require, and with all the legal incidents to a
corporation aggregate; provided, however, that
nothing in this Act shall be construed to grant
any banking privileges to said Company, or the
right to issue any note of the nature of a bank
note.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Com-
pany shall have, make and use a common seal,
and shall have full power and authority to make
insurance upon the lives of individuals and every
insurance appertaining thereto or connected there-
with, and to grant, purchase or dispose of annui-
ties, and to transact any business necessary for the
effectual prosecution of the business of life assur-
ance, not being contrary to the Constitution and
laws of this State or the United States.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Johns
Hopkins, Thomas Kensett, Joseph B. Brinkley,
