Grouse, Merrick, German, Crawford, Gordy.—84.

The Journal of yesterday was read.

The' Speaker laid before tho House the petition of St. Jo-
seph's House of Industry.

Which was read and referred to the Committee ou Ways
and Means.

Also,

Petition of Reverdy Johnson, I. Nevitt Steele, Win.
Schley, S. T. Wallis, George M. Gill, and others, praying
the increase of the pay of the Judges of the Orphans' Court
of Baltimore city.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. White presented the petition of Enoch Joy, and nine
others, from Frederick county, asking to be placed on the
pension list equally with others.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Gatch submitted the following message ;

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 12, 1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to appoint a Joint Special Committee of four members of the
House, and three on the part of the Senate, to take into con-
sideration, that portion of the Governor's Message which
relates to the Confederate dead of Antietam and Gettysburg,
and what legislation is necessary to secure their decent inter-
ment in their own State.

We have appointed upon the part of the House Messrs.
Gatch, Thomas, of Frederick, Wootton and Neill,

Chief Clerk.
Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.

Mr. Ritter presented the petition of C. H. Baugher and
others of the Confederate Memorial Association of Frederick
county, in relation to the Confederate dead.

Which was read and referred to a Joint Committee on tbat
subject.

The Speaker appointed John McWilliams policeman of the
Rotunda, who appeared and was duly qualified.
