LAWS OF MARYLAND.

How collected

point a collector to collect the same, and prescribe
the term of office, responsibility and compensation,
and said Collector shall have the same power to
distrain for said taxes, as the Collectors of county
taxes have, and shall pay the same, when collected,
to the Burgess and Commissioners.

Bond of
Treasurer.

Sec. 12. And be it enacted, That the Burgess
shall be Treasurer of the corporation, and shall
give bond to the corporation, with security to be
approved by the Commissioners, in such penalty
as they shall prescribe, conditioned for the faithful
performance of his duty as Treasurer; and he shall
receive and pay away moneys according to the
ordinances of the corporation.

Open streets.

Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That they may, with
the consent in writing of a majority of the lot-
holders and citizens of said town, according to the
plat thereof, as have been closed up, and they may
call upon the proprietors of such lots, or their
agents, for the original plat thereof, so that they
may define the limits and direction of such streets
or alleys; and if the proprietor of any lot, or his
or her agent, shall refuse to furnish such plat,
they may take such testimony us they may think
necessary to define the limits and directions of.
such streets and alleys, and lay out and open the
same as effectually as if they had such plats.

Expenses, how
paid.

Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That the expenses
of laying out and opening any street or alley in
said town shall be paid out of the funds of the
corporation not appropriated, or by the parties
petitioning for the same, at the discretion of the
Burgess and Commissioners; but in no case shall
any damage or expenses be allowed to any proprie-
tor of any lot by whom or by whose authority any
street or alley has been closed.

Paved and re-
paired.

Sec. 15. And be it enacted, That they may direct,
bv ordinance, all or any of the foot-ways in the
town to be laid off and leveled, and paved or re-
paired with any material they may deem best, at
the expense of the deficient proprietors of lots be-
fore which the same shall be done.

Sec. 16. And be it enacted, That if the owner
of any house, lot, or part of lot where such level-
ing, paving or repairing shall be directed, shall
