LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Bequest sanc-
tioned.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the sanction and consent of the
General Assembly of Maryland be and the same is
hereby given to said bequest ; provided, that
nothing contained in this Act shall be construed
to affect any suit at law or legal proceeding now
pending in any court of this State in relation to
the property devised as aforesaid.

In force.

Sec. -. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 4, 1870.

 

CHAPTER 448.

 

AN ACT to Incorporate the Hope Mutual Life In-
surance Company of Maryland.

Incorporation

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That George F. Needham, George
N. Mackenzie, William B. Canfield, Ezra Whit-
man, E. Otis Hinkley, John Curlett, Gerard H.
Eeese, F. H. Grupy, John F. Wiley, William
H. Richardson, Ed. T. Norris, John B. Brown,
Samuel R. Smith, and all other persons who may
hereafter associate with them, in the manner here-
inafter prescribed, shall be, and are hereby de-
clared a body politic and corporate, by the name

of "The Hope Mutual Life Insurance Company of
Maryland," and by that name may contract and
he contracted with, sue and he sued, defend and
he defended against, in any and all Courts.

Powers.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this cor-
poration shall have no powers or privileges, except
such as are expressly granted by this charter.

Insure lives of
members.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the cor-
poration hereby created shall have the power to
insure the lives of its respective members, and to
make all and every insurance appertaining to,
or connected with life risk, and to grant and
purchase annuities, shall have a common seal,
shall have power to make reinsurance of any risks
