and to take in as much sail as shall be necessary
to prevent damage by carelessness be'fore going
through the same, and at a sufficient distance
therefrom, to remove liability of injury or damage
to said drawbridge by the headway of such vessels,
and shall use in the management of said vessels
reasonable care to prevent injury.

Prevent dam-
ages.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That any person or
persons, by reason of gross neglect or inattention,
shall violate the second Section of this Act, shall
be fined twenty-five dollars for each and every such
offence, and pay all damages that may be done to
the said bridge.

Penalty for
gross neglect.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 416.

 

AN ACT to amend certain portions of the Act
entitled An Act to Incorporate the Cecil and
Harford Counties Boom Company, passed at the
January Session of eighteen hundred and sixty-
seven, Chapter one hundred and ninety-five,
and to require the said Company to remove cer-
tain and all obstructions placed by them in the
Susquehanna River, in violation of the aforesaid
Act.

 

WHEREAS, The Cecil and Harford Counties Boom
Company claim, under their Act of Incorporation,
passed at the January Session of eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-seven, Chapter one hundred and
ninety-five, the right and power to condemn gen-
erally the shores and fisheries of the Susquehanna
River and its neighboring streams, which claim,
if allowed, will give this, a mere private corpora-
tion, the monopoly and control of the shores and
fisheries aforesaid, to the great hurt and perma-
nent injury of the owners thereof and the public;
and,
