Parsons as Directors, and all other persons who by
becoming stockholders may be associated with
them, shall be and they are hereby made and con-
stituted a body corporate and politic by the name

and Wharf Company, and by that name shall
have succession, and be able to sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, answer and be answered,
in any court of law and equity;and may have and

at pleasure, and shall have the rights and privi-
leges necessary to purchase, leasehold and possess
such lands, waters and water rights as may be
necessary to open, enlarge and deepen a channel
or canal from a point on the Wicomico river
known as Ruark's wharf, to the head waters of
said river, at the town of Salisbury ; to erect
wharves, causeways, buildings and other conve-
niences at any or all points on the borders of said
channel ; to remove and prevent all obstructions

having a tendency to deflect or impede the flow of
water therein ;to construct, equip and repair such
stream, or vessels, dredges and lighters, for navi-
gating the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries ;for
cutting, deepening and removing obstructions
from said channel or canal; for the conveyance of
passengers, towing vessels, barges or rafts, and for
the transportation of produce and merchandise,
the same to hold and possess, or lease or sell again
at pleasure, and generally to do and perform all

such, acts as may be necessary for the purposes of
this Company; provided, that in no case shall the
navigation of the aforesaid portion of Wicomico
river be impeded in any manner whatsoever by the
erection of any of the improvements herein men-
tioned.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the seven per-
sons named above, or a majority of them, may

cause books to be opened at such times and places
as they may direct, giving two weeks notice
thereof, in a newspaper published in the town of
Salisbury, for the purpose of receiving subscrip-
tions to the capital stock of said Company, one
dollar, for every share of stock subscribed, shall
