pense attending the arrest ,-ind prosecution of the
suit, he shall retain one-fourth of the balance him-
self, distributing one-fourth among the parties
assisting in making the arrest, and pay over the
remaining one-half to the School Fund of the
county, to be used in the repair of old and the erec-
tion of new public school houses.

CHAPTER 189.

AN ACT to provide for the protection of sheep in
Queen Anne's, Dorchester and Somerset Counties,
and for reimbursing owners of sheep for damages
sustained by them in the killing or injuring of
sheep by dogs.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Mart/land, That the County Commissioners re-
spectively, of Queen Anne's, Dorchester and Som-
erset counties shall require an accurate return to
be made annually, in the months of July and
August, by the constables of the several election

districts in said counties of all dogs upwards of
four mouths old owned or kept by any person
within their said districts, particularly noting the
number owned or kept by each person, and more
effectually to secure the performance of this duty
and the collection of the tax hereinafter directed

constables in any of the said election districts, the
said Commissioners shall divide and apportion said
district among the constables of said district.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said County
Commissioners of the said several counties respec-
