Mr. Clarke renewed his amendment.

Mr. Stephenson renewed his amendment to the amend-
ment.

Pending the consideration of which,
On motion by Mr. Hyland,
The Senate adjourned.

EVENING SESSION.
THURSDAY, March 31, 1870, 8 o'clock, P. M.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Present at roll call, the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Browne, Carroll, Clarke, Earle, Fields,
Grove, Henkle, Henry, Hyland, Jump, Maddox, Malone,
Miller, Parker, Sellman, Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Tim-
mons, Welch, Wilson—22.

The President announced the first business in order to be
the unfinished business of the morning session.

The question being upon the amendment submitted by
Mr. Clarke.

Mr. Henkle submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:

Chapter 18, section 1, line 2, after the word "qualifica-
tion, "insert the word: tax paying.

Mr. Henkle withdrew his amendment to the amendment.
The question then recurred upon the amendment submitted
by Mr. Clarke.
Mr. Earle called for the yeas and nays.
