<620 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 29,

Mr. Wilson, from the Committee on Education, to whom

was referred House bill entitled an Act to repeal the Act of
1868, chapter 407, entitled "Public Education," providing
a general system of Free Schools for the State of Maryland,
and re-enact the same with amendments, reported it without
amendments.

Said bill was then read the second time.

Mr. Parker, from the Select Committee, to whom the leave

was granted, reported a. bill entitled an Act to provide for
levying a tax upon the owners of dogs in Calvert county,
and to appropriate a portion thereof as. compensation to any
person who may kill or destroy foxes, in said county.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Welch, from the Select Committee, to whom was re-
ferred House bill entitled an Act to regulate the trial fees of
the State's Attorney for Kent county, reported it without
amendment.

Said bill was then read the second time.

Mr. Snyder, from the Select Committee, to whom was re-
ferred the House bill entitled an Act to protect the Craighill
Channel, at the mouth of the Patapsco river, reported it
without amendments,

Said bill was then read the second time.

Mr. Sellman, from the Select Committee, to whom was re-
ferred House bill entitled an Act to authorize and empower
the County Commissioners of Montgomery county, to add
additional buildings to the Almshouse of said county, &c.,
reported it without amendment.

Said bill was then read the second time.

Also, from the same Committee, to whom was referred
House bill entitled an Act to authorize the Governor to ap-
point an additional Justice of the Peace, for the 4th and 5th
election districts of Montgomery county, reported it with the
following amendment:

Amend section 1, line 3, by striking out the figure "5" and
word "and," and in the 6th line, strike out the word "respec-
tively."
Which was read and adopted.

The section, as amended, was then read and adopted.
Said bill was then read the second time.

Mr. Malone, from the Select Committee, to whom was re-
ferred House bill entitled an Act to repeal section 2, of
