Which was read the first time and referred to the Com-
mittee on Corporations.

And returned the Senate bill entitled an Act to require the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore to take charge of and
keep in repair all highways and bridges within the city
limits.

"Endorsed by the House of Delegates, March 23, 1870,"
reported with proposed amendment; considered, proposed
amendment rejected, and enacting clause stricken out.

The Senate adjourned.

THURSDAY, March 24,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Henderson.
Present at roll call, the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Browne, Denson, Fields, Henry, Hy-
land, Malone Miller, Parker, Sellman, Snyder, Spates, Ste-
phenson, Timmons, Welch, Wilson—16.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Carroll presented the memorial of Francis T. King,
Jesse Tyson and other citizens of Baltimore, of the religious
denomination of Friends, praying the passage of a law to
provide for the education of colored children of tins State.

Which was read. and referred, to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

Mr. Earle presented the petition of W. F. Ford. and other
citizens of Queen Anne's county, praying an amendment to
the oyster laws of this State, so as to prevent illegal dredg-
ing in the Chester river.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries.

Mr. Henkle presented the memorial of Christian Ax, B.
F. Newcomer, Jacob Trust, William T. Walters and others,
