The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Present at roll call, the following Senators: Messrs. Biggs, Carroll, Clarke, Earle, Grove, Henkle,
Henry, Hyland, Kimmel, Miller, Parker, Snyder, Spates,
Timmons—14. The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.
On motion by Mr. Clarke, Leave was granted to the Senator from Baltimore county,
to introduce a bill entitled an Act to prohibit the sale of
spirituous liquors within one mile of Warren Factory, in
Baltimore county. Mr. Henkle, from the Committee on Internal Improve-
ments to whom the leave was granted, reported a bill enti-
tled an Act for the benefit of Agriculture, by securing the
vendors of manure. Which was read the first time.
On motion by Mr. Carroll, Leave was granted, to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill in relation to Life Insurance Companies, provid-
ing for a deposit of one hundred thousand dollars, for de-
tailed annual statements, and for the better regulation of
Life Insurance Companies. On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was Ordered, That the President of the Chesapeake & Ohio
Canal Company, be and he is hereby requested to transmit to
the Senate without delay, a copy of the receipt of the Attor-
ney of Virginia for the payment of $58,400, in December
last, and also a copy of the agreement of the Board of Public
Works of Virginia, or of other Virginia authorities, to apply
the said sum according to the decisions of the Court, in the
pending case of Virginia vs. the said Company and others,
in the Circuit Court of Baltimore city, and if there be any
difference between the amount so agreed to be returned and
the amount which was paid to said State, to explain the rea-
sons for such difference. Mr. Grove, from the Select Committee, to whom was refer-
