the City of Westminster, and for the purpose of said exten-
sion, .they may increase their capital stock to an amount not
exceeding two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and they
shall have power to construct, maintain and work their line
with said extension, and also branches or lateral roads, not
exceeding five miles in length.

Which was read and adopted.
The section as amended was then read and adopted.
Said bill, as amended, was then read the second time, and
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.
On motion by Mr. Fields,
The regular order of business was suspended.
Mr. Fields submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the Secretary be instructed at as early a day
as practicable, to report to the Senate the number of officers
or persons employed, and the duty assigned to each.
On the question being put,
It was determined in the affirmative.
On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was

Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Print-
ing, be, and he is hereby authorized to select some one of the
present officers of this House to perform the duties of Mr.
Quinby during his absence by sickness.

The Senate bill entitled an. Act to incorporate the town of
Upper MarIborough, in Prince George's county,

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The Senate bill entitled an Act supplementary to an Act
for the establishment of an Academy at Elkton, passed at the
December session 1817,

Was read the third time and passed by yeas and nays, as
follows:
AFFIRMATIVE.

Clarke, Sellman,
Fields, States,
Henkle, Stephenson,

NEGATIVE—None.

Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.
