BY THE SENATE,
March 10th, 1870.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We have received your message inviting this Body into
the Hall of the House of Delegates, to proceed to the election

of a Commissioner of Police for the City of Baltimore, in
conformity with the arrangement heretofore agreed upon by
a concurrent vote of both Houses, and will in a few momenta
meet your House in Joint Convention.

Secretary.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the House of
Delegates.

On motion by Mr. Wilson,

The Senate was called, and the Sergeant-at-Arms directed
to wait upon absent Senators, and inform them that their
presence was required in the Senate Chamber.

On motion by Mr. Hyland,
Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

At the hour of 12, M., the Senators proceeded to the Hall
of the House of Delegates, to meet in Joint Convention to
elect a Police Commissioner for the city of Baltimore, to fill
the vacancy caused by the death of Lefevre Jarrett, as re-
quired by the Act of 1867, chapter 367.

The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, then
announced that the Senate and House would now, in Joint
"Convention, proceed to the election of a Police Commissioner
for the City of Baltimore, to fill the vacancy caused by the
death of Lefevre Jarrett, as required by the Act of Assembly
of 1867, chapter 367, and as agreed upon between the Houses.

The names of the persons nominated on the part of the
House having been read by the Clerk,

Mr. Snyder nominated George H. Steuart, of Baltimore

city.

The Chairman appointed Mr. Malone, of the Senate, and
Mr. Gorman, of the House, to act as tellers.

The Secretary of the Senate and Clerk of the House of
Delegates then proceeded to call the roll of the respective
Houses.

Whereupon each member proceeded to ballot.
Upon counting the ballots,

Mr. Malone, on the part of the tellers, submitted the fol-
