ing Joint Resolutions: JOINT RESOLUTIONS. WHEREAS, it is highly important that the. General Assem-
bly should take into full consideration the effect of any Act
heretofore passed, and recognize the changes that have taken
place in the sentiment of our people or in the interest of the
public, and WHEREAS, it has become evident in view of the great and
rapid growth of Baltimore and the neighboring cities, that
cheap rates of railroad fare would greatly facilitate travel
and thereby add to the commercial prosperity of Baltimore
and of the State of Maryland, therefore, Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the charge of one-fifth of the gross receipts from passengers
upon the Washington branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail-
road Company, which, by the Act of 1832, chapter 175, is
payable to the State, ought now to be released. And be it further resolved, That the Committee on Finance
be instructed to introduce a bill repealing section eight of the
said Act of 1832, chapter 175, and declaring that from and
after its passage by the General Assembly, the State will re-
lease the said Railroad Company from the payment of said
charge or sums of money ; Provided, however, that all arrear-
ages due to the State by virtue of the Act of 1832, chapter
175, up to the passage of said Act, shall be settled and paid
up to the entire satisfaction of this Assembly. Which were read the first time and ordered to be printed,
and made the order of the day for Thursday, February 25th..
