1870.] OF THE SENATE. 159

accordance with the requirements of the duties imposed upon
us, discloses the fact that the papers in a considerable num-
ber of equity cases are unrecorded, though such records
should have been completed several years ago; a portion of
these papers are in a damaged condition by the fire which
took place in that office on the night of August 23d, 1861.
They should be recorded at once in order that the titles to a
very large portion of property should be preserved; it is not
a question affecting a few persons; large landed estates which
have been sold by Trustees under proceedings in equity, have
been subdivided and sold, until the titles of very many per-
sons are jeoparded, by being held subject to proceedings
which being unrecorded may be lost, mislaid, or destroyed
at any time.

A portion of the extracts of law records of some eight years
or more ago, embracing a period of perhaps two or three
years, have not been made and lodged with the Clerk of the
Court of Appeals as required by law.

The Indices of the Land records require a revision, and a
system of indexing which will expedite the examination of
titles in Baltimore county is absolutely required for the con-
venience and security of all persons having business with the
office.

We respectfully call your attention to these matters, and
ask at your hands such legislation as may be needed in the
premises, GEO. YELLOTT,
BIOHARD GRASON,
A. W. BATE MAN.
