Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

The following bill having passed both branches of the Gene-
ral Assembly, was this day submitted to his Excellency, the
Governor, for his approval :

A bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of money to
furnish the Governor's Mansion and appoint a Committee to
superintend and control the disbursement of the same, and
the purchase of the furniture.

Mr. Spates submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Committee on Claims pay to each officer
of the Senate, the same compensation allowed for similar
services at the last session of the General Assembly.

Mr. Earle submitted the following amendment :

Ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate, Reading Clerk
and Journal Clerk shall each receive ten dollars a day for
their services, and the other officers of the Senate five dollars
a day each.

Mr. Snyder submitted the following amendment to the
amendment.

Ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate, the Reading
and Journal Clerks shall receive each ten dollars per diem,
and all other officers excepting the Sergeant-at-Arms, in the
employ of the Senate, shall each receive acompensation, of
five dollars per diem. And the compensation of the Sergeant-
at-Arms shall be five dollars per diem for his services, unless
he shall be called upon to perform extra services, in which
event he shall receive such additional compensation as the
Senate may deem just and equitable.

The question being upon the adoption of the amendment
submitted by Mr. Snyder,

It was determined in the affirmative.

The question then recurred upon the adoption of the order
as amended and,

It was determined in the affirmative.
On motion by Mr. Denson,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to in-
troduce a bill to extend the charter of the Powhatan Steam-
boat Company.

On motion by Mr. Snyder, it was

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal, that Sena-
tor Maddox is absent from his seat in the Senate in conse-
quence of affliction in his family.
