WEDNESDAY, February 2, 1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Clarke, Denson, Earle,
Fields, Grove, Henkle, Henry, Hyland, Jump, Malone,
Miller, Parker, Sellman, Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Tim-
mons and Welch.—21.

The Journal of Tuesday was read and approved.

Mr. Stephenson presented the petition of R. H. Archerand

other citizens of Harford county, for the passage of a law to
prevent the recently invented mode of taking fish in Specutia
Narrows, by whipping, beating and splashing the water
thereof.

Which was read and referred to Senators Stephenson,
Fields and Malone.

Mr. Brown presented the petition of 47 citizens and soldiers
of the war of 1812, praying the continuation of the present.
pension law.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions.

Mr. Snyder presented the petition of 150 citizens of Balti-
more, praying the passage of a law to preclude incompetent
persons from engaging in the Apothecary business.

Which was read and laid upon the table.

Mr. Henry presented the petition of 44 citizens of Dorches-
ter county, praying the passage of a law for the more effect-
ual collection of taxes in said county.

Which was read and referred, to the Committee on Finance.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the follow-
ing bills:

A bill entitled an Act to authorize the Governor to appoint

an additional Justice of the Peace for election district No.
11, in Frederick county.

Which was read the first time and referred to Senators
Biggs, Clarke and Grove.

A bill entitled an Act to extend the jurisdiction of Jus-
tices of the Peace for Wicomico county to cases of assault
and battery.
