MONDAY, January 31,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. Biggs, Browne, Denson, Earle, Fields, Grove,
Henry, Jump, Kimmel, Malone, Parker, Sellman, Snyder,
Stephenson, Welch—15.

The President of the Senate being absent from the seat of
Government,

On motion by Mr. Stephenson,

The Hon. Henry Sayder was elected President pro tem., of
the Senate.

The Journal of Friday was read and approved.

Sir. Biggs presented the petitions of Anna Snook and, Su-
sannah Measel asking for a pension.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Pensions.

On motion by Mr. Browne,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to refund Brice Shipley, of Carroll county, a sum
of money overpaid by him into the State Treasury.

On motion by Mr. Malone,

Leave was granted to Senators Malone, Henry and Fields,
to introduce a bill to authorize and empower the County
Commissioners of Wicomico county to purchase sites for a
Court House and Jail in said county, whenever, in their
judgment, the public convenience and necessities shall so re-
quire ; and to provide ways and means for the same.

Mr. Malone, from the Select Committee to whom the leave
had been granted, reported a bill entitled an Act to author-
ize and empower the County Commissioners of Wicomico
to purchase sites and to erect public buildings thereon for
the use of said county, and to issue bonds on the credit of
said county to carry into effect the provisions of this Act.

Which was read the first time.

The Joint Resolutions in relation to the Island of Cuba,
Being upon their second reading,
On motion by Mr. Grove,
