ANNAPOLIS, January 19,1870.
HON. BARNES COMPTON,
President of the Senate:

DEAR SIR:—According to law I herewith submit the regu-
lar report to the Legislature of Maryland of the Police
Commissioners of Baltimore city, for the years 1868-69.

Respectfully,
LEFEVER JARRETT,
President of Board.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from Balti-
more city.

The Committee on the part of the Senate made the follow-
ing
REPORT.

The Committee appointed by the Senate and House of Del-
egates to count the votes for Treasurer of Maryland, beg
leave to report, that on yesterday, January 18th, 1870, after
the votes of the Senate had been deposited in the ballot-box
of the Senate, and before the House of Delegates had comple-
ted its second ballot, the Senate adjourned; the box contain-
ing the ballots of the Senate being properly sealed, was then
placed in the hands of the Secretary of the Senate for safe-
keeping.

In the House of Delegates the votes of the members having
been deposited in the ballot-box of said. House, in consequence
of the Senate having adjourned, the box containing the bal-
lots were duly sealed, by the Speaker and placed in the keep-
ing of the tellers of the House.

That on the the 19th day of January, in compliance with
the concurrent message of the two Houses of the General As-
sembly, the Joint Committee retired, to a private apartment
with the boxes of the respective Houses containing said bal-
lots, and upon counting the same find that John Merryman
has received sixty-two votes; Robert Fowler has received
thirty-three votes ; Joshua Vansant received thirteen votes ;
William F. Pannell received three votes.

Your Committee therefore respectfully report, that Mr. John
Merryman having received a majority of the whole number
of votes cast, is returned by the Committee, in conformity with
the established usage, as elected to the office of Treasurer of
Maryland. HENRY SNYDER,

Whereupon it was declared that John Merryman was duly
elected State Treasurer.
