The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled an
Act to repeal an Act passed at the, session of 1868, entitled
Public Education, providing a general system of free public
schools for the State of Maryland, and to repeal the laws in-
consistent therewith, and to re-enact the same with amend-
ments,

Endorsed, " Passed by yeas and nays, with proposed
amendments:''

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Chapter 2, section 1, line 5, strikeout "three," and insert:
four.

Chapter 2, sec. 2, add to end of section: Provided that the
counties having over ,one hundred schools, five persons shall
be appointed.

At the end of section 9, chapter 3, add: and the Principal
of the State Normal School shall be ex-officio a trustee of the
State Agricultural College.

Amend section 5, chapter 4, by inserting after the word
''counties," in line 19, the following: But the proceeds from
special taxes may be paid oftener upon the order of the Coun-
ty School Board.

Chapter 7, section 7, line 3, strike out "district," and in-
sert county.
