1198 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 31,

The bill entitled an Act to amend section 190, Article 9,
of the Code of Public Local Laws for Charles county, title,
"Sheriff," by adding an additional clause to said section,
regulating the compensation of the Sheriff for prisoners con-
fined in jail,

Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Chesapeake
Chemical Works,

Being upon a second reading,

Mr. Turner submitted the following amendment:

Section 1, line 6, strike out the word ''Chesapeake" and
insert the word Patapsco.

Which was adopted,

And the bill, as amended, ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The bill entitled an Act to appropriate the sum of six
thousand five hundred and eighty-one dollars, to pay James
Touchstone for iron railing aronnd the new Executive Man-
sion, at Annapolis, Maryland,

Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.

The bill entitled an Act to authorize the transfer of the
stock held by the State in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal
Company to the Trustees of the bondholders of said Company.

Being upon a second reading,

Mr. Gorman submitted the following amendment:

Section 1, line 5, strike out J. Bayard and H. Smith, and
insert John S. Gittings.

Which was read.

Mr. Bowlus moved to postpone the further consideration of
the bill until to-morrow at 9 o'clock P. M.

The question recurring upon concurring in the motion sub-
mitted by Mr. Bowlus,

On motion of Mr. Neill,
