REPORT.
To the Honorable the
General Assembly of Maryland :
The Joint Committee on Public Buildings would respect-
fully report to their respective Houses, that they have care~
fully examined the claims presented by Mr. W. Black for
the erection of a stable for the use of the Governor, amount-
ing to nearly fifteen thousand dollars; many of them are
extravagant in the extreme. Mr. Black was authorized by
the Commissioners for the erection of a Mansion for the Gov-
ernor, to build a stable for the use of the Governor, provided
that it should not cost a sum to exceed $7.000, and that he
(Black) would trust to the Legislature to make the necessary
appropriation, as there was no law authoriziag the same.
We respectfully recommend payment of seven thousand
dollars for cost of stable, eight hundred and twenty-five dol-
lars for cost of land, forty-five dollars for conveyancing, two
hundred and fifty-two dollars and twelve cents for the intro-
duction of water and gas, a total of eight thousand one hun-
dred and twenty-two dollars and twelve cents, as per accom-
panying bill.
