The Office promotes Maryland's film and video
production industries.
Providing a range of logistical assistance, the
Office helps with location scouting, securing per-
mits, casting, film crew housing, catering, and
equipment rental. The Office also prepares and
distributes materials highlighting desirable film lo-
cations in the State.
In 1992, the Office assisted in bringing the
following films to Maryland: Sleepless in Seattle,
directed by Nora Ephron; Meteor Man, directed by
Robert Townsend; Serial Mom, directed by John
Waters; Guarding Tess, directed by Hugh Wilson;
The Distinguished Gentleman, directed by Jonathan
Lynn; In the Line of Fire, directed by Wolfgang
Peterson; and Dave, directed by Ivan Reichman.

Also, the television series, Homicide: Life on the
Streets,
was shot on location in Baltimore.

ADVISORY COUNCIL

The Advisory Council to the Motion Picture and
Television Development Office consists of twelve
members representing both government and the
State's television and movie industry. Ten are ap-
pointed by the Secretary of Economic and Employ-
ment Development with the Governor's approval and
Senate advice and consent. Two are General Assembly
members, appointed by the Senate President and the
House Speaker (Code 1957, Art. 83A, sec. 4-301).

ADVISORY COMMISSION ON SPORTS

Formerly under the Division of Tourism and Promo-
tion, the Commission has been inactive since 1991.

BUDGET, PLANNING & RESOURCE
DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Under the Division of Employment and Training,
and within the Office of Employment Services, the
Division was reorganized in 1993 as the Operations
and Planning Team.

GOVERNOR'S EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING
COUNCIL

Renamed the Work Force Investment Board in
1992 (Chapter 412, Acts of 1992).

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS &
SPECIAL UNITS DIVISION

Under the Division of Employment and Training, and
within the Office of Employment Services, the Divi-
sion was reorganized in 1993 as the Management
Information Systems and Technical Support Team.

MARKETING RESOURCES

Reorganized in 1991 as Marketing Research
Group.

MARYLAND BUSINESS ASSISTANCE CENTER

Formerly within the Division of Business Develop-
ment, the Center was reorganized in 1991 as the
Office of Business Assistance within the Division of
Business Resources. In 1993, the Office was reor-
ganized as the Business Assistance Program.

MARYLAND ECONOMIC GROWTH FUNDS

In 1991, reformed as Financing Programs.

MARYLAND INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT
FINANCING AUTHORITY EXPORT FINANCE
PROGRAM

Renamed as the Trade Financing Program in 1991,
and as the Trade Finance Program in 1993.

MARYLAND MAGAZINE

Formerly under the Division of Tourism and Pro-
motion, Maryland Magazine was sold to a private
concern in February 1992.

NATIONAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

In 1992, renamed Business Development Group.

NATIONAL MARKETING

Reorganized in 1991 as National Business Devel-
opment.

OFFICE OF BUDGET & FINANCE

In 1991, renamed the Office of Finance.

OFFICE OF INFORMATION PROCESSING

Renamed Office of Information Services in 1991.

OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
DEVELOPMENT

Reorganized in 1992 as the Office of Foreign In-
vestment.

OFFICE OF SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

In 1993, the Office was reformed into the Small
Business Development Center Network.

OFFICE OF SPORTS PROMOTION

In 1992, the Office was disbanded due to budget
constraints.

OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

The Office was reorganized in 1993 as Technology
Commercialization within the Division of Business
Resources.

OPERATIONS DIVISION

Under the Office of Employment Services, the Di-
vision was disbanded in 1992 due to budget con-
straints.

SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER
PROGRAM

Formerly under the Division of Business Develop-
ment, the Program was reorganized in 1992 as the
Office of Small Business Development under the
Division of Business Resources.

WORK FORCE INVESTMENT BOARD

Formerly under the Department of Economic and
Employment Development, the Board, in October
1993, became an independent agency (Executive
Order 01.01.1993.30).
