The Governor's Advisory Council on Ac-
quired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
was created in May 1987 by the Governor (Ex-
ecutive Order 01.01.1987.14). The Council is
devising a statewide strategy to stop the spread
of AIDS.
Serving as the Governor's primary advisory
body on prevention of the disease, the Council
makes recommendations on health care and treat-
ment. The Council investigates means by which
State and local governments in partnership with
the private sector may interrupt the spread of
AIDS. In addition, the Council develops public
awareness and promotes education to prevent the
disease, advises the Governor on the role of State
officials in implementing programs, and advises
any organization in Maryland that seeks counsel
on AIDS.
