The Governor, at the request of the General
Assembly, established the Agent Orange Commis-
sion in September 1986 (Joint Resolution no. 35,
Acts of 1986). The Commission compiles studies
on the effects of Agent Orange and other defoliants
on Vietnam veterans. The Commission serves as a
central data bank for the identification of affected
persons in Maryland. A plan for coordinating legal,
medical and social assistance to affected persons is
being developed by the Commission.
In December 1987, the Commission submitted
a preliminary report to the Governor and General
Assembly. The Commission has been asked to con-
tinue its work through 1989.
