At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor created this task force in August 1983
(Joint Resolution no. 27, Acts of 1983). The Task
Force is to examine the State's role in financing
services and programs provided by senior citizen
centers. It also will study the history of State
involvement with the centers and examine center
programs and services and their future develop-
ment. The Task Force will report its findings in
1985.

The Governor appointed the Task Force on
Teen Pregnancy in February 1984. The Task Force
is to examine all aspects of teen pregnancy and teen
parenting, including the economic, social, and
educational ramifications of pregnancy on teen
parents and their children.
The Task Force issued an interim report in
November 1984, and will submit its final report in
June 1985.

The Governor created the Inter-Departmental
Committee for Telecommunications Master Plan-
ning in 1982 (Executive Order 01.01.1982.03). The
Committee is responsible for coordinating the
development of a Telecommunications Master
Plan for Maryland State government.
The Committee submitted recommendations to
the Governor in September 1983. Based on these
recommendations, the Governor authorized funds
to retain a consultant to prepare a Telecommunica-
tions Master Plan. The Master Plan should be
completed for consideration during the 1987 Legis-
lative Session.

The Three Mile Island Committee was estab-
lished by the Governor in March 1980 to review all
proposals for the disposal of waste and all other
aspects of the cleanup operation at Three Mile
Island nuclear power plant that could affect Mary-
land and its residents. The Committee is to exam-
ine all pertinent proposals by the federal Nuclear
Regulatory Commission, review Maryland's moni-
toring activities and the interpretation of monitor-
ing data, follow the course of events during the
cleanup, and determine when there is no longer a
threat to Maryland attributable to the 1979 nuclear
accident at Three Mile Island.
