board is known as the Alcoholic Beverage
Board, and the members are appointed for
two-year terms by the Governor with Senate
confirmation. In Frederick County, the Gov-
ernor appoints the License Commissioner
for a five-year term and the Alcoholic Bev-
erages Inspector for a four-year term with
the advice and consent of the Senate (Code
1957, 1976 Repl. Vol., 1976 Supp., Art.
2B, sees. 148, 151 and 153).
Liquor Control Boards: Consists of three
members appointed by the Governor with
the advice and consent of the Senate for
two years except in Harford County where
the term is three years. In Somerset County
members are appointed by the Governor
only and serve terms of four years; in
Worcester County for four years and in
Garrett County for six years. In Harford
County, the Board is appointed by the
County Executive with Council approval for
three-year terms. In Garrett County, ap-
pointments are subject to confirmation by
the House of Delegates. In Kent County,
the Board of County Commissioners consti-
tutes the Liquor Control Board, ex officio.
In Montgomery County, the agency is
known as the Department of Liquor Con-
trol and is appointed by the County Execu-
tive with the approval of the County Coun-
cil (Code 1957, 1976 Repl. Vol., 1976
Supp., Art. 2B, sec. 159).
Extension Agents: Appointed by the Coop-
erative Extension Service of the University
of Maryland for indefinite terms (Code
1957, 1975 Repl. Vol., Art. 77A, sec. 15).
Soil Conservation District Supervisors: Con-
sists of five members, of whom the county
governing body appoints one who serves at
the pleasure of the governing body. The
remaining four members are appointed by
the State Soil Conservation Committee from
the residents of the District. One is ap-
pointed from a list submitted by the County
Farm Bureau, and three are appointed from
a list submitted by the County Extension
Service. Two represent the District at large.
The terms of the four members who are not
appointed by the governing body of the
county are for four years (Agriculture Art.,
sees. 8-301 and 8-302).

The name is from the Indian word Ooli-
khanna, meaning "Beautiful Stream." The
County was erected by Chapter 29, Acts
of 1789.
