This Board, created by Chapter 652, Acts
of 1914, consists of five persons appointed
by the Governor upon the recommendation
of the Secretary of Health and Mental Hy-
giene for four-year terms from a list en-
dorsed by the Maryland Association of
Optometrists. The Board administers the
optometry laws of the State and regulates
the practice of optometry. It examines, li-
censes, and registers. The credentials of the
applicant must comply with standards set by
this Board. For just cause, the Board may
revoke any certificate of registration or ex-
amination (Code 1957, 1971 Repl. Vol.,
Art. 43, sees. 368-86).

The Board of Osteopathic Examiners, es-
tablished by Chapter 786, Acts of 1914,
consists of five members appointed by the
Governor upon the recommendation of the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene
for three-year terms from a full list of mem-
bers in good standing of the Maryland 0s-
teopathic Association (Code 1957, 1971
Repl. Vol., Art. 43, sees. 467-80).
The Maryland Board of Osteopathic Ex-
aminers investigates the credentials of an
applicant for permission to practice osteop-
athy within the State and issues or refuses
licenses. It holds two meetings each year to
examine these applicants whose credentials
will not warrant issuing of a license through
the Previous Practice or Reciprocity Acts
The Board cooperates with municipal and |
State officials in enforcing the laws regulat-
ing the practice.

The Commission on Physical Fitness was
created by Chapter 606, Acts of 1963, to
protect and improve the physical fitness of
the residents of this State.
The Commission consists of twenty-five
members, including a Chairman, all ap-
pointed by the Governor, upon the recom-
mendation of the Secretary of Health and
Mental Hygiene, because of their interest
or experience in physical fitness for both
youth and adults. Members serve for a term
of four years. The Commission appoints the
Executive Director who also serves as the
Secretary of the Commission.
The Commission maintains liaison with
the State Department of Education, the city
and county Boards of Education, private
and parochial schools, and physical fitness
commissions. It also disseminates informa-
tion about physical fitness, collects and as-
sembles information from other departments
and agencies of the State, and employs such
personnel as necessary to carry out its
functions. |
