The Division also administers the Mary-
land Industrial Land Act which assists
counties and Baltimore City to acquire and
develop industrial land and shell buildings.
Community Economic Inventories and
other business and industrial reference and
promotional publications are prepared by
the Division. It also conducts advertising
programs in national and regional publica-
tions which call attention to Maryland's
business and industrial advantages and op-
portunities, tourist attractions, and the
State's seafood delicacies (Code 1957, 1971
Repl. Vol., Art. 41, sees. 258-266).

This program provides assistance and ad-
vice on plant location/expansion (sites,
buildings, labor, taxes, financing, etc.). It
also provides information and technical as-
sistance regarding exporting and importing,
and acts as "ombudsman" for Maryland
businessmen. A European Industrial Devel-
opment Representative is stationed in Brus-
sels, Belgium.
TOURIST DEVELOPMENT

The Tourist Development program pro-
motes Maryland's scenic, recreational, cul-
tural and historic attractions. It also pro-
vides matching funds to local jurisdictions
for tourism purposes.

Seafood Marketing program promotes in-

The Ocean City Convention Hall Com-
mission was created by Chapter 646, Acts
of 1967. The Commission consists of five
members, all of whom are appointed by the
Governor for five-year terms. The Governor
selects the Chairman. At least two of the
members of the Commission must be resi-
dents or property owners within the cor-
porate limits of Ocean City.
The Ocean City Convention Hall is op-
erated for housing religious, business and
professional conventions, cultural events, in-
dustrial exhibits, trade shows, and other
events which might stimulate the tourist
trade and economy of the State. The Con-
vention Hall has officially been open for a
period of seventeen months. It has been
most successful in attaining its original in-
tent and purpose. |
