It also makes recommenda- tions as to compliance with the minimum standards and qualifications for all blood banks, all clinical laboratories and laboratories making examinations of water and dairy products involved in shipments out of Maryland and periodically inspects all these laboratories to assure compliance with the rules and regulations. The Administration provides consultation and assistance to local health officers in the development of programs to meet the needs of the population served. Activities reporting to the Administration are Nursing Services, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition, and Speech and Hearing. Preston Street, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 383-2785 The Preventive Medicine Administration consists of six programs. The Maternal and Child Health program is concerned with prenatal and postnatal care, preschool and school health programs, family plan- ning, screening of newborn infants for heritable disorders (such as PKU), and poison control. Crippled Children's Services provides diag- nosis, consultation, and care programming for a variety of handicap- ping conditions. Communicable Disease Control initiates measures to prevent or to control epidemics, as well as implementing epidemiologi- cal studies of diseases. Veterinary Medicine is concerned with the con- trol of animal diseases transmissible to man, as well as inspection and licensing of kennels and pet shops and animal control. Dental Health promotes community and institutional dental health services, including the fluoridation of public water supplies. |
