INNER CITY COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

This program was developed in anticipation of the Community Men-
tal Health Center which is being constructed adjacent to the Univer-
sity of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. In 1967 the Center began
offering comprehensive community mental health services to all resi-
dents of a designated area in Baltimore City. These services include
inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, emergency and consul-
tation education.
The Center presently maintains three outpatient satellites which
provide care for adults, adolescents, and children. Short term residen-
tial care is available through an agreement with the University of
Maryland's Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. Psychiatric
emergency service is available to area residents twenty-four hours a
day, seven days a week. Partial hospitalization services are offered
five days a week. Consultation and education services are provided to
agencies and other caregivers including police, courts, schools, housing
projects, juvenile services and day care centers, etc.

The Springfield State Hospital, established by Chapter 231, Acts of
1894, opened for patients in 1896. The hospital provides for the care
of mentally ill patients from Baltimore City, postal zones 21208, 21209,
21210, 21211, 21212, 21214, 21215, 21216, 21217, 21218, 21234, and
21239, and Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Howard, Montgomery
and Washington counties.
The facility is licensed for 2,796 patients.
