cember 30, 1920. Buried in Christ Protestant Episcopal Church Ceme-
tery, Cambridge.
Elihu E. Jackson, Democrat, 1888-1892. Born in Somerset County,
November 3, 1837, the son of Hugh and Sarah (McBride) Jackson.
Methodist. Resident of Wicomico County when elected. Married Annie
Francis Rider. Died in Baltimore, December 27, 1907. Buried in Par-
sons Cemetery, Salisbury.
Frank Brown, Democrat, 1892-1896. Born in Carroll County, August
8, 1846, the son of Stephen T. Cockey and Susan A. (Bennett) Brown.
Presbyterian. Married Mrs. Mary Ridgely Preston. Died in Baltimore,
February 3, 1920. Buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore.
Lloyd Lowndes, Republican, 1896-1900. Born in Clarksburg, West
Virginia, February 21, 1845, the son of Lloyd and Marie (Moore)
Lowndes. Resident of Allegany County when elected. Episcopalian.
Married Elizabeth Tasker Lowndes. Died in Cumberland, January 8,
1905. Buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Cumberland.
John Walter Smith, Democrat, 1900-1904. Born in Worcester County,
February 5, 1845, the son of John Walter and Charlotte (Whittington)
Smith. Presbyterian. Married Mary Frances Richardson. Died in
Baltimore, April 19, 1925. Buried in Presbyterian Cemetery, Snow Hill.
Edwin Warfield, Democrat, 1904-1908. Born in Howard County, May
7, 1848, the son of Albert G. and Margaret (Gassaway) Warfield.
Presbyterian. Married Emma Nicodemus. Died in Baltimore, March
31, 1920. Buried in family burial ground at Cherry Grove, Howard
County.
Austin L. Crothers, Democrat, 1908-1912. Born in Cecil County, May
17, 1860, the son of Alpheus and Margaret Aurelia (Porter) Crothers.
Presbyterian. Unmarried. Died in Elkton, May 25, 1912. Buried in the
West Nottingham Presbyterian Cemetery.
Phillips Lee Goldsborough, Republican, 1912-1916. Born in Cam-
bridge, August 6, 1865, the son of M. Worthington and Nettie M.
(Jones) Goldsborough. Episcopalian. Married Ellen Showell. Died in
Baltimore, October 22, 1946. Buried in Christ Protestant Episcopal
Church Cemetery, Cambridge.
Emerson C. Harrington, Democrat, 1916-1920. Born in Dorchester
County, March 26, 1864, the son of John E. and Elizabeth (Thompson)
Harrington. Episcopalian. Married Gertrude Johnson. Died in Cam-
bridge, December 15, 1945. Buried in Christ Protestant Episcopal
Church Cemetery, Cambridge.
Albert C. Ritchie, Democrat, 1920-1935. Born in Richmond, Virginia,
August 29, 1876, the son of Albert and Elizabeth Caskie (Cabell)
Ritchie. Resident of Baltimore City when elected. Episcopalian. Mar-
ried Elizabeth Catherine Baker. Died in Baltimore, February 24, 1936.
Buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore.^
Harry W. Nice, Republican, 1935-1939. Born in Washington, D.C„
December 5, 1877, the son of the Rev. Henry W. and Drucilla (Arnold)
Nice. Resident of Baltimore City when elected. Methodist. Married
Edna Viola Ames. Died in Richmond, Virginia, February 25, 1941.
Buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore.
I Chapter 227, Acts of 1922 provided for Quadrennial elections. The Governor elected
in November 1923 held office for three years. Beginning with the election held on the
first Tuesday after the first Monday in November 1926, elections were held in the
even-numbered years which were not presidential election years.
