Social Services.» Board: Consists of nine members appointed by the governing body of the County for three-year terms from lists submitted to it by the State Social Services Administration after approval by the State Board. One member must be a member of the governing body of the county (Code 1957, 1969 Repl. Vol., Art. 88A, Sec. 14). Director of Social Services: Appointed by the County Social Services Board (Code 1967, 1969 Repl. Vol., Art. 88A, Sec. 14A). Commissions on the Aging: Appointed by the governing body in each county for indefinite terms (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 70B). Planning and Zoning Commissions: Consists of five to seven members, including one member of the governing body of the county, who serves ex officio. Members are appointed by the local legislative body or by the county executive. The term of the ex officio member corresponds to his term of office on the county governing body. The remaining members serve five- year terms. In Allegany County, the commission consists of seven members who serve five-year terms (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 66B, Sec. 3.02). Planning Directors: Appointed by the Planning and Zoning Commission for indefinite terms. In Howard County, he is appointed by the County Executive. In Harford County, he is appointed by the commission with the approval of the County Commissioners (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 66B, Sec. 3.04). Board of Zoning Appeals: Consists of three or five members appointed for three-year stag- gered terms, by the governing body of the county (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 66B, Sec. 4.07). County Board of Appeals: In the charter counties, members are appointed by the County Council to serve such terms as may be provided in that county's charter. In Anne Arundel County, the Board consists of five mem- bers who serve four-year terms. In Baltimore County, the Board has three members and two alternate members who serve for three years. In Howard County, the Board has three members who serve for three years. In Montgomery County, terms are for three years (Code 1957, 1966 Repl. Vol., Art. 26A, Sec. 5 (U)). Appeal Tax Courts: Consists of three members appointed by the governing body of the county for three-year terms. The governing body of the county designates the Chairman and also appoints alternate members. In Montgomery County, the County Executive with the approval of the County Council makes the appointment (Code 1957, 1969 Repl. Vol., Art. 81, Sees. 248-250). Sanitary Commissions: Consists of three members appointed by the governing body of the county for six-year terms, one term expiring every two years. In Allegany County, the commission consists of seven members appointed for six-year terms. In Garrett County, the commission consists of five members, and in Somerset County, five members (Code 1957, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 43, Sec. 649). |
