powers to develop, on a bi-county basis, a transportation system including mass transit facilities for the needs and growth of both counties. The Commission supplies to the interstate agency, the Wash- ington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, two members of their Board of Directors and two alternates. At the present time, the Com- mission has delegated as its principals Mr. Barnett and Mr. Sickles, and as its alternates Mr. Burcham and Mr. Hovsepian. The Commission works in conjunction with the interstate authority which has developed a regional rapid rail transit system for the entire Washington metropolitan area. The system has been under construction since December 1969. The Commission will supply the funds to meet the obligation for the cost of the transit facilities and services in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.
