The Governor appointed this special Commission at the request of the General Assembly in 1970 to study public and private ownership of school buses and the continuation of the existing system of owner- ship ending completion of this study. The Commission is to consider an independent and impartial study of public versus private owner- ship of school buses, the relative cost of each system of ownership, the ability of each system to transport pupils in rural and urban areas, and the feasibility of single formula for reimbursement to the county or city boards of education irrespective of whether the county or Baltimore City utilizes public or private ownership of school buses or a combination of ownership. The Governor appointed this special Committee in 1969 to screen all State-published brochures for any possible racial slurs. The Com- mittee has issued a directive to all State agencies requiring each to submit all non-technical brochures and pamphlets to it prior to printing. Clayton Mitchell, House of Delegates. State Motor Vehicle Administration, Glen Burnie 21061 The Governor appointed this Task Force in 1970 at the request of the General Assembly. It consists of representatives of the Governor's office, the State Senate, the House of Delegates, the Motor Vehicles Administration, the Maryland State Police, the State Highway Admin- istration, the office of the Maryland Highway Safety Coordinator, the National Highway Safety Bureau and the Secretary of Personnel. The Governor designates the Chairman. The Task Force is charged .with the responsibility of developing a system of periodic motor vehicle inspection in Maryland that will provide for an improvement in Maryland's highway safety posture and it also will bring Maryland into conformance with the highway safety standards pertaining to inspection that have been promulgated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States Department of Transportation. Specifically, the Task Force is charged with the responsibility to explore the possibility of a State operated system of periodic motor vehicle inspection that will provide a full range of highway safety services to the citizens of Maryland. The Task Force has received a $55,000.00 Federal grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to finance staff support activities and a report is expected to be submitted to the Governor and the General Assembly prior to the 1972 session of the General Assembly (Res. No. 61, Acts of 1970). |
