Division of Labor and Industry Telephone: 383-2254 The Governor appointed this special Commission in 1971 at the request of the General Assembly to investigate and study the exist- ing State laws and rules and regulations relating to elevators, esca- lators and dumbwaiters, to determine the necessity of enacting laws governing the same. The Commission consists of nine members con- sisting of two manufacturers of elevators, escalators and dumb- waiters, two insurers, two labor representatives, one representative of the Division of Labor and Industry, one member of the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development, and one member representing the general public. The Commission is to report its findings to the Governor, the Legislative Council, and the General Assembly prior to the 1972 Session (Res. No. 3, Acts of 1971). The Commission was originally set to expire on December 31, 1970, but its life was extended to January 1, 1972. This fifteen-member Commission was initially appointed to design a program of environmental education for Maryland, including all levels from elementary school through adult programs, which would effec- tively implement the objectives, of appropriate education to help citizens understand Maryland's resources, to support the responsible management of the human environment, and to insist upon steward- ship which would insure the best possible quality of environment for themselves and future citizens of the State. The Commission is also to provide specific related recommendations on teacher training, mate- rials and techniques, organization of the State program, appropriate funding and to report to the Governor and the General Assembly. The Commission consists of members of the General Assembly, the State Department of Education, the State colleges, the University of Maryland, the Maryland Agricultural Commission, local school sys- tems, conservation organizations, industry, and religious and cul- tural groups (Res.
