Harvey, 1972; Carmen Del Signore, 1972. The Land Reclamation Committee, originally established by Chapter 144, Acts of 1967, had its functions expanded by Chapter 414, Acts of 1969. The present Committee consists of the Director of the Maryland Geological Survey who serves as Chairman, the Chairmen of the Allegany County and the Garrett County Soil Conservation Dis- trict Supervisors, the Director of the Fish and Wildlife Administra- tion, and the Directors of the Departments of Forests and Parks, Water Resources, and the Bureau of Mines. The appointed members represent the mining industry and are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate for three year terms. The Land Reclamation Committee studies, recommends, and ap- proves procedures for reclamation, conservation, and revegetation of areas affected by open-pit mining within the State. The Committee also reviews all mining and reclamation plans, progress reports and final reports. The Committee is further to establish plans and methods of procedure as well as practical guidelines for the prompt and adequate reclamation conservation and revegetation of all lands disturbed by open-pit mining of bituminous coal within the State (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 66C, sees. 668, 660, 661, 662, 664, 665, 666,667 and 674). INTERSTATE OIL COMPACT COMMISSION Representatives from the State of Maryland: Marvin Mandel, Governor; Kenneth N. Box 53127, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105 Telephone: 405 JAckson 5-3556 The Interstate Oil Compact was executed in Dallas, Texas, on February 16, 1935. Maryland ratified the Compact by Chapter 390, Acts of 1959. The Commission was created to insure the cooperation between the various signatory states to conserve gas and oil, to prevent the waste of those valuable mineral resources, and to preserve to the individual states the rights of local control over these matters. Membership on the Commission consists of the Governor of each signatory state together with an alternate representative. At the present time, twenty-nine states have ratified the Compact. In addi- tion, four other states are associate members (Code 1957, 1970 Repl. Vol., Art. 66C, sees. 689A-689C). |
