232 MARYLAND MANUAL land Historical Trust, who act as the trustees. The Trust is to have supervision over all improvements, alterations, additions, landscaping and repairs of the State House as well as the buildings and grounds within the area known as State Circle in Annapolis. The trustees may appoint from one to three non-voting associates who are qualified by experience and interest in historical preservation. The Trust is to retain an architectural consultant (Code 1957, 1965 Repl. Vol., 1969 Supp., Art. 41, sees. 407-408). MARYLAND BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION Chairman: Charles Parkhurst, 1973 C. Price, Executive Secretary Baltimore Museum of Art, Art Museum Drive, Baltimore 21218 Telephone; 889-1735 The Maryland Bicentennial Commission, created by Chapter 458, Acts of 1968. consists of fifteen members appointed to plan for the commemoration of the American Revolution. Members of the Commis- sion are appointed by the Governor for terms of five years each. Members may be reappointed. Members of the Commission elect their own Chairman. The Commission is to appoint its Executive Director and staff at a later date. The Commission is to give emphasis to significant events preceding the American Revolution, the coordination of activities with similar groups, encouragement of local bodies in developing commemorative programs, development of scholarly publications, encouragement of development of scenic parkways to preserve and promote Maryland's shrines, and develop school programs. The Commission is to confer with Federal groups, and to adopt an official flag, seal and other such emblems. Maryland Historical Trust, Old Treasury Building, Annapolis 21401 The Governor appointed this Committee in 1968 to conduct research into the history and the architectural features of the Maryland State House and to make recommendations for a complete restoration. The Committee consists of an architect specializing in historic research. a nationally recognized expert on Georgia architecture, the Principal Architect for the Department of Public Improvements, a member of the House of Delegates, the Chairman of the Maryland Historical Trust, and the Vice President of Historic Annapolis, Inc. The Com- mittee will be replaced at a later date by the State House Trust. |
