The Council serves as an advisory body to the State Board of Agriculture in implementing the Maryland Wholesome Meat Act as well as in effecting cooperation with the U. S. C. 20006 The Governor appointed this Commission in 1968 at the request of the General Assembly to initiate and coordinate programs designed to foster, improve, increase, and encourage trade, tourism, and cul- tural exchanges between the free countries of Central and South America and the State of Maryland. The Commission consists of representatives of business, labor, education, tourism, and the public at large. The Commission is to explore and study, and report its findings on, the establishment of a trade center which shall, among other uses, be designed to foster educational exchanges between busi- nessmen through seminars and tours; assist in obtaining federal and state financing or foreign trade, promote investments, sales, distribu- tions and exchanges of products, displays, educational and cultural data, and other such services. The (commission is to report to the Governor and General Assembly from time to time (Res. No. 21, Acts of 1968). The Library Committee, which is composed of at least three mem- bers appointed by the Court of Appeals (Code 1967, 1965 Repl. Vol., Art. 41, sees. 166-69), exercises general supervision over the Library and appoints the Director (Code 1957, 1965 Repl. Vol., Art. 41, sec. 170). The Library consists of a legal section of approximately seventy- two thousand (72,000) volumes, and a reference section of approxi- mately forty-eight thousand (48,000) volumes. The reference section contains many rare books, maps, and documents, including the sub- scription edition of the four elephant folio volumes of Audubon's Birds of America, the most complete file now in existence of the |
