Millard Tawes on October 15, 1964, and made a part of the State government by Chapter 306, Acts of 1965. The Maryland Office of Economic Opportunity was established for the purpose of administering in the State of Maryland, the Federal Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 (PL 88-452), of creating and par- ticipating in various areas and types of youth and work training pro- grams; urban and rural community action programs; special programs to combat poverty in rural and urban areas; employment and invest- ment incentive programs; work experience programs; and of com- bating unemployment and assisting in the education, training and economic betterment of citizens of the State of Maryland. The Coordinating Committee, composed of State Department heads, acts in an advisory and coordinating capacity to the Maryland Office of Economic Opportunity in the administration of the Economic Oppor- tunity Act of 1964 in Maryland (Code 1957, 1965 Repl.
