LOUIS L. GOLDSTEIN, Comptroller of the Treasury Louis L. Goldstein was born in Prince Frederick, March 14, 1913. He was educated in the Baltimore City and Calvert County public schools, Washington College (B.S., 1935), and the University of Mary- land School of Law (LL.B., 1938). From 1938 to 1942, he was a Delegate from Calvert County to the General Assembly. In 1942 he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps as a private and was discharged in 1946 as a First Lieutenant after service in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters. He is now a Captain in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve. From 1946 through 1958 Mr. Goldstein was State Senator from Calvert County, and during this time he was Majority Leader (1951- 56) and President of the Senate (1955-58). He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1947 to 1958 and served as its Chairman between 1955 and 1958. In 1958 he was elected Comptroller of the Treasury and re-elected in 1962. Mr. Goldstein is married to the former Hazel Horton and has three children, Philip, Luisa, and Margaret Senate. He and his wife share a legal practice in Prince Frederick, where he also operates a real estate agency, several farms, and a weekly newspaper. He is active in veterans', charitable, and civic organizations. He is a member of the Board of Visitors and Governors of Washington College. He also served as a delegate to various Democratic National Conventions and was a member of the Platform and Resolutions Committee at the 1964 Convention. THOMAS B. FINAN, Attorney General Thomas B. Finan was born in Cumberland, June 30, 1914. He was educated in the Cumberland parochial schools, Georgetown University (A.B., 1936), and the University of Maryland School of Law (LL.B., 1939). Since 1939 he has practiced law in Cumberland, except during his military service (1941-45). He entered the Army as a private and was discharged as a Captain decorated with the Legion of Merit after service in the European theater and several months spent as a prisoner of war. He is now a Major in the U. S. Army Reserve. Mr. Finan served three terms as city solicitor of Cumberland (1948-60, 1952-59). From 1954 to 1959, he was chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee for Allegany County, and in August 1959, he became State-wide chairman. He represented Mary- land at the Democratic National Conventions of 1956 and 1960. He served as Secretary of State of Maryland from January 1959 to January 1961, when Governor Tawes appointed him Attorney General to fill the unexpired term of C. Ferdinand Sybert, who had resigned to accept an appointment to the Maryland Court of Appeals. In November 1962, Mr. Finan was elected to a four-year term as Attor- ney General. Mr. Finan married the former Isabel Jean North in 1941 and has two children. He is an officer of several business firms and active in civic and veterans' organizations.
