Charles Street, Baltimore 21201 This Committee was originally established by the President of the United States under Public Law 684 as part of the international edu- cation and cultural exchange program of the United States govern- ment. Its purpose is to promote the better understanding of the United States abroad and to increase the mutual understanding between peoples of other countries. As a part of the program, the State Com- mittee is to screen applications from candidates recommended by col- leges and universities within the State to undertake graduate study abroad. The Committee recommends up to four candidates no two of whom may choose the same country and forwards the applications to the Institute of International Education for consideration by the Board of Foreign Scholarships. Members of the Committee are ap- pointed by the Governor for indefinite terms. STATE EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION AGENCY Educational Advisory Committee Chairman: Wesley N. Preston Street, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 837-9000 In 1&62, the Governor designated the State Board of Education as the State Educational Television Agency and established a working committee known as the Educational Television Advisory Committee to represent the broad educational-cultural interests of the State. The Advisory Committee is to study and report upon the educa- tional and cultural applications of television in the State. Three reports have been submitted by the Committee to the State Board of Educa- tion, including recommendations for the coordinated development of educational television in Maryland. The present State-wide plan for educational television adopted by the Board is based upon the recom- mendations of the Advisory Committee. The Committee is also charged with the development of criteria for appraising the scope of optional programming and technical standards of operation. Requests for licensure of educational channels or for federal assistance are to be referred to the Committee for evaluation and recommendation. The Committee reviews annually the program reports submitted to it by the operating units and develops procedures for the effective coordi- nation of educational television throughout the State, both open and closed circuit. |
