The State Board of Canvassers was created by Chapter 739, Acts
of 1957. It meets thirty days after any State election to tabulate the
votes cast for each candidate from the certified statements of votes
made by the city and county boards of canvassers. The Board declares
who is elected and delivers a certificate of election to the Secretary
of State. He issues the proclamation of election, keeps the records of
the Board, and delivers a copy to the Governor who issues a com-
mission to the persons elected (Code 1957, Art. 33, sees. 142-143).

The Governor appointed this special study commission in 1965 at
the request of the General Assembly to review the corporation laws
of Maryland with respect to the membership of non-profit corpora-
tions, special types of corporations, and small corporations with a
limited number of stockholders. The Commission is to report to the
Governor and the General Assembly at a later date (J. R. No. 21, Acts
of 1965).

POISON AND NARCOTIC LAWS OF MARYLAND

The Governor appointed this Commission in 1962 at the request of
the General Assembly, to ascertain whether or not the adoption of
the Uniform Food and Drug Law would be in the best interests of
the people of Maryland. The Commission consists of the Commissioner
of Health, the Chief of the Division of Drug Control, the Chief of the
Division of Food Control, and representatives of the medical profes-
sion and the pharmaceutical industry (J. R. No. 13, Acts of 1962).
