BANKING LAWS STUDY COMMISSION

The Governor appointed the Commission to Study the State Bank-
ing Laws in 1962 to make a thorough survey and study of the present
banking laws with a view to making suggested revisions to meet
present-day banking problems. One appointed member represents the
Senate, while another represents the House of Delegates. The Com-
mission is continuing its survey and is to report to the 1964 Session
of the General Assembly.

The State Board of Canvassers was created by Chapter 739, Acts
of 1957. It meets thirty days after any State election to tabulate the
votes cast for each candidate from the certified statements of votes
made by the city and county boards of canvassers. The Board declares
who is elected and delivers a certificate of election to the Secretary
of State. He issues the proclamation of election, keeps the records of
the Board, and delivers a copy to the Governor who issues a com-
mission to the persons elected (Code 1957, Art. 33, secs. 142-143).

The Governor appointed this Advisory Committee in 1961 at the
request of Delegate Roy N. Staten of Baltimore County to advise the
Hospital Council of Maryland and the State Planning Department in
determining the necessity for a fully accredited general hospital to
be located in the southeast section of Baltimore County.
