MARYLAND MANUAL 67

Governor for six-year terms. The College offers courses in the liberal
arts with the primary objective of preparing students for transfer to
the junior class of senior colleges and universities. The State has
established twenty-nine 2-year scholarships, one for each county and
each legislative district of Baltimore City. The scholarships are
awarded annually on a basis of need to candidates who have passed
examinations conducted by the County Board of Education or the
Board of School Commissioners of Baltimore City (Code 1957, Art, 77,
sees. 260, 282). The 1960-1961 enrollment was 253.

The Anatomy Board of Maryland, an ex officio body, created by
Chapter 609, Acts of 1947, is composed of the head of the Anatomy
Department and one additional instructor of anatomy from the Uni-
versity of Maryland School of Medicine and from The Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine. The members of the Board are desig-
nated. by the administrative officers of each school. The agency insures
the fair distribution of cadavers to qualified medical schools. These
bodies would otherwise have been buried at public expense. If, how-
ever, relatives claim the body for burial, it is surrendered for inter-
ment. Those unclaimed are used only for the promotion of medical
science within the State of Maryland. The bodies are distributed
between both schools of medicine according to an arranged plan
(Code 1957, Art. 43, sees. 158-161).
