GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE ON THE MORAL ASPECTS
OF TRAFFIC SAFETY

The Governor appointed this Committee in 1959 to create public
awareness of the moral responsibility of each individual for the
safety of others. The Committee consists of twenty-six members of
whom one is the Governor, nineteen are clergymen, three represent
radio and television, and three the newspapers. The Committee
encourages clergymen to use and distribute traffic safety prayers and
to discuss the problem in sermons, and it encourages broadcasting
companies and newspapers to publicize the issue.

At the request of the General Assembly, the Governor appointed
this Commission in 1959 to study the trial magistrate's system, in the
counties with a view to making the position more attractive to
highly qualified members of the Bar. The Commission is to recommend
legislation to the Governor and members of the General Assembly
before the opening of the 1960 Session of the Legislature (Acts 1969,
J.R. 18).

At the request of the General Assembly the Governor appointed
this Commission in 1959 to study city-county fiscal relationships. The
Commission consists of thirteen members appointed as follows: the
Maryland Municipal League nominated four; the County Commis-
sioners Association nominated four; the President of the Senate
nominated two from among the members of the Senate; the Speaker
of the House of Delegates nominated two from among the members
of the House of Delegates; and the Governor appointed one member
of his own selection, who became chairman. The Commission is to
