This Committee was appointed by the Governor in 1953. It is the
purpose of the group to study the higher educational needs of the
State with particular reference to the needs of the Baltimore area.

This Commission was originally authorized by the General Assembly
of 1952 (J. R. No. 2) to study the problems of teachers salaries and
the financing of the public school system. The General Assembly of
1953 requested the Commission to study further all problems relative
to the matter of public education (1953, J. R. 14).
