BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF MEMBERS

SENATE

E. DALE ADKINS, JR., Republican, Wicomico County; born in
Salisbury, December 7, 1915. Attended Wicomico High School, Mer-
cersburg Academy and Haverford College, graduating in 1936, and
the Harvard Law School, graduating in 1939. Attorney. Member of
the Maryland Bar. Served in the U. S. Army 1941-1946, inducted as
Private and discharged as Major, Ordnance Department. Married.
Elected to the Senate in 1960.

PAUL J. BAILEY, Republican, St. Mary's County; born in Washing-
ton, D. C., October 30, 1905. He attended the public schools of the
District of Columbia and the Washington College of Law, graduating
in 1933; he is a member of the Bar of Maryland and the District of
Columbia and also a professional musician. Former member U. S.
Navy Band. He is a 'former Justice of the Peace and former member
of the Republican State Central Committee. Married. Elected to the
Senate in 1946.

HUBERT P. BARTON, Democrat, Baltimore 2nd; born in Sterling
City, Texas, December 18, 1900. He resided in Baltimore for 20 years.
Attended the Johns Hopkins University, graduating in 1924; did
graduate work in economics at Harvard and New York University.
Served in the Army of the United States 1942-1946 as a Major.
Engaged in the automobile accessories business. Unmarried. Elected
to the Senate in 1946.

JOHN O. BYRD, Democrat, Worcester County; born near Mardela
Springs, Maryland, July 21, 1890. Attended Somerset County public
schools. Wholesale grocery executive. He has served as a member
