30 MARYLAND MANUAL

On June 1, 1941, the responsibility of the state supervision over
certain instalment houses was assigned to this office by the Legislature
through the Acts of 1941, Chapter 851. This called for a small increase
in the personnel of the department, who though handicapped by the
sudden abnormal expansion of business brought on by the war, have
been able by their supervision to hold to a minimum those abuses that
necessitated the passage of such an Act by the General Assembly.
This section of the office is also sustained by the fees obtained for
licenses secured therefrom.
